CÉNIT SCHOOL READING PLAN

“To read. And to read well. Reading is a primary part of the learning process for children from the first years of the school stage.”

Our Centre has a reading promotion plan for the development of reading comprehension and the improvement of oral expression (Reading Plan). Its main objective is to motivate our students to find reading as a means of entertainment and learning, and to improve their reading comprehension through an active and participatory methodology that will utilise all the resources available to the school.

This year, the entire teaching staff has reviewed and updated the Reading Plan to adapt it to the current needs of our students and turn it into a backbone for all the activities of the centre. The goals we have set in developing this plan are for our students to:

  • Acquire a reading habit and a love for reading both in the classroom and at home.
  • Achieve a reading speed and oral expression that are appropriate and consistent with their age.
  • Improve their level of reading comprehension.
  • Use reading as a source of information and entertainment.

To achieve this, a whole range of activities has been designed, among which the following stand out:

  • Botín Foundation: reading books and resources.
  • The use of common titles that are read and worked on as a group.
  • The promotion of the Classroom Library as a space for learning and entertainment, and attendance at the Municipal Library.
  • The main problem we encounter is the lack of positive stimuli that reinforce a love for reading. Reading as a playful, fun, and enriching act must be our primary goal so that our students want to read and do not focus only on knowing how to read. That is why it is fundamental for the entire Educational Community to understand that it plays an important role, especially the family.
  • Participation in all types of reading promotion and encouragement activities, both inside and outside the school.

“If we want a child to acquire the habit of reading, they should see their role models—parents, teachers, friends—always with a book under their arm.”
